Benefits of air handling units for data center

In modern era data regulation count goes far day after day and that’s why server storage system need also rose up but when there huge sized server who calculating million of data daily and it runs 24x7 that was the reasons behind extreme amount of heat production which danger the accident of System blast. To prevent these kinds of situation Install Air Handling Units for Data Centers. In the upcoming article we discuss the role of AHU for Data Center and its benefits, now without wasting anymore time here we go.

Role of AHU for Data & Telecommunication Centers

Air Handling Units (AHU) is a vital aspect that affects the environment administration of the data center directly and significantly influences equipment steadfastness, operational proficiency and energy use. The essential advantages that can be based on the recent industry findings are listed below:

  • Primary Heat Rejection (Sensible Cooling):

    • Core Problem: Servers, switches, routers, and storage arrays, and power conversion equipment produce enormous heat 24 hours a day. There would be quick surging of temperatures without an effective drawing and consequent failure in components and disastrous back-down.

    • AHU Solution: A standing heat exchanger (AHU) constantly delivers in large quantities of dry cool air straight to the IT equipment (usually through raised floor plenum or overhead ducts). This air conveys the heat produced by the equipment. The AHU will in turn receive the now heated return air and re-cool it (usually with chilled water or refrigerant coils), and re-distribute it.

  • Precise Temperature Control:

    • Demand: IT devices have an optimum operating temperature range (e.g. 18 C - 27 C / 64 F - 81 F, or other guidelines such as ASHRAE TC 9.9). This must be consistent.

    • AHU: A sophisticated AHU monitors cooling capacity and airflow with fine-grain controls (valves, dampers, variable speed drives - VFDs), to keep the supply air temperatures within a narrow range, typically +/- 1o C or even less, in spite of changes in the IT load and no matter the external conditions.

  • Humidity Level Control:

  • Requirement: Extremely low, as well as excessive humidity, is hazardous:

    • Low Humidity: Provides more risk of Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) which may result in Fried Components.

    • High Humidity: Will cause condensation to form on the cold surfaces which will result in corrosion and also resulting in short circuit.

  • AHU Solution: AHUs have tacked on humidification (steam or adiabatic) and dehumidification (cooling coils or desiccant) to address relative humidity (RH) stability in the tight required range (usually 40-60% RH or in more narrowly defined ranges).

  • Air Filtration and Contamination Control:

    • Need: Dust, smoke and chemical vapors and other air contaminants may result in corrosion, clogging filters, interfering with heat transfer and rendering some components unusable.

    • AHU Solution: AHUs use particulate-removing filters of very high efficiency, particulate air (HEPA) & MERV-rated (usually MERV 13-16 or more), to eliminate particulates. The gas-phase filtration may be required in some special facilities. AHUs are used to keep a positive pressure in the data hall in order to reduce infiltration of unfiltered air.

  • Air Movement and Distribution:

    • Need: The cooling air should be efficiently provided to the inlet of each equipment and the hot exhaust air should be efficiently collected and removed to eliminate recirculating hot air and hot spots.

    • AHU Solution: AHUs can deliver the environmentally required static pressure to force air travel through complicated ducts, plenums and perforated tiles. They are in combination with the physical layout of the room (hot aisle/cold aisle containment) so that correct airflow schemes are maintained and bypass/short-circuiting are minimized.

Benefits of Air Handling Unit for Data Centers

  1. Optimized Energy Efficiency

    • New AHUs employ the latest fans and heat recovery technologies, making their energy consumption highly efficient and reducing the operation expenses, which is essential in the data center world of demand.

  2. Precise Climate and Humidity Control

    • AHUs can effectively regulate temperature and humidity and help avoid temperature and electrical shock damage to sensitive computer equipment and data centres can operate reliably.

  3. Improved Air Quality

    • AHUs are fitted with high quality filters that eliminate dust and other characteristics in air, ensure clean air that keeps equipment life-span longer and minimizes chances of equipment breakdown.

  4. Scalability and Flexibility

    • AHUs can easily be scaled, as well as tailored or expanded to meet the growing demands of the data center so they can easily adapt with changes to higher cooling patterns without drastic change to the infrastructure.

  5. Fewer Maintenance and Downtime

    • AHUs are durable and accessible, which makes their routine maintenance less time- and cost-consuming and allows running a data center 24/7.

Conclusion

Data centers cannot operate without AHUs as such ventilation prevents overheating and shutting down of systems due to excessive heat produced around the clock. They offer exact temperature levels and moisture and outstanding air filtration and efficient use of energy. This guarantees protection of equipment, efficiency during operation, 24/7 reliability and substantial savings.
